Tagging

If you are consigning with us, YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF TAGGING ALL OF YOUR ITEMS!

Supplies needed

There will be a few things you need to make your tagging process run smoothly. Not everything on the list will be needed for every consignor, it will depend on your items. I will link some options at the bottom of the page.

  • Hangers - you will need to provide your own hangers. If you need hangers, check your local dry cleaners, thrift stores or retail stores. At the end of our sales, we give out any hangers we have gathered from the sale and allow consignors to take some during pick-up. However, be advised they may not be the exact hangers you brought, so keep that in mind.
  • White Cardstock/Index Cards - this will be used to make your tags! One sheet of cardstock should create 8 tags. (300 sheets will allow you to create and tag 2,400 items!)
  • Red Marker or Red Circle Stickers - a red dot placed in the lower left corner of your tag will indicate you are marking your item 50% off on the last day of the sale.
  • Tagging Gun - we highly recommend a tagging gun over safety pins, especially if you have 50+ items. It will make for a much quicker and easier process!
  • Safety Pins - (alternative to tagging gun) to attach tags to your items and to help keep clothing together and on hangers. You will need EXTRA if you plan to use this over a tagging gun.
  • Scissors or Paper Cutter - to cut cardstock into 8 tags.
  • Clear Packing Tape - to attach tags to your items.
  • Scotch Tape
  • Painters Tape - this is best used on books or items that would tear when taking off clear packing tape.
  • Magic Eraser - these work great for getting scuffs off shoes or toys.
  • Lint Roller/Brush
  • Zip Lock Bags - these are great for accessory items such as socks, girls' hair bows, small toys, etc. Some even use them to group items such as books together.
  • Zip Ties - these work great to keep shoes together, to keep larger items together, or to attach your tags to bigger items.
  • Hole Punch - perfect for preparing tags for zip ties!
  • Rubber Bands - keep like items together, group books together.
  • Cling Wrap - great way to keep wooden puzzles together while still allowing buyers to see what it is.

Pricing

The most successful consignors price their items appropriately. We recommend 50-75% off of retail as a great starting point. If items are priced too high, they will likely not sell. We recommend that you price budget brands slightly lower than better brands. Items in excellent condition or new with tags can be priced higher.

Tagging Clothing

  • All your clothing MUST be hung securely on hangers.
  • Secure your clothing with safety pins if needed, DO NOT use straight pins or clothes pins. Your secured item should be able to withstand a fall to the floor without coming off the hanger. If it comes off, there is a lower chance of your item being seen and sold.
  • The hook of your hangers need to all face to the LEFT, like a question mark. This ensures all clothes are facing the same way during the sale which enhances the shopping experience and the odds of your sale.
  • When hanging a two-piece outfit, hang the shirt on the hanger, then attach the bottoms to the shoulders of the shirt using safety pins. You can also hang each item on their own hanger and rubber band the hangers together. This is also a great opportunity to utilize the hangers made for two-piece outfits.
  • Bundle items together using the rubber band method to connect all hangers into one bundle. This works great for things like onesies!
  • Using your tagging gun or safety pins, attach your tags to the right side of your clothing. Make sure you are sticking your tagging gun needle or safety pin, through a seam to avoid making holes in the clothing. We can turn your clothing away if it is not properly tagged.

Tagging Toys & Equipment

  • Large Equipment - attach tags with tagging gun, safety pins or zip ties. Please do not use tape.
  • Toys - attach tags with zip ties or clear packing tape. If smaller toys, especially with many pieces, please place in a zip lock bag with tag attached to the outside of bag with packing tape or tagging gun.
  • Shoes - MUST be attached together. You can tie laces together or use a zip tie to connect them.
  • Books & DVD's - use rubber bands to bundle. Painter's tape will need to be used to attach tags to avoid tears when removing. We recommend putting bundles of paperback children's books in zip locks to avoid tearing at the sale.
  • Accessories - place smaller items such as bibs, hair bows, socks, etc. in zip lock bags and attach tags to outside of bag with packing tape or tagging gun.
